Peace & Friendship — The Promise That Crossed the Salween River
The Sacred Buffalo Oath Between Thailand and Karenni (1809)
More than two centuries ago, the rulers of Eastern Karenni (Kantarawadi) and Chiang Mai Kingdom sealed a sacred friendship with the Buffalo-Oath Ceremony, promising that peace and respect would flow as endlessly as the Salween River.
Today, as we remember this eternal bond, we also pause to honor the memory of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, whose life embodied grace, compassion, and service to her people.
Her kindness and devotion to humanity will forever be remembered — not only by the Thai nation but by neighbors and friends who cherish the shared spirit of friendship she represented. “As long as the Salween River flows, may our friendship remain everlasting.”
Karenni Vision — celebrating peace, history, and friendship across generations.
